Learn Language with Subtitles ("we", "our", or "the extension") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use our Chrome Browser Extension.
1. Information We Do NOT Collect
We do not collect, store, or transmit any personal information, browsing history, email addresses, account credentials, cookies, or tracking identifiers. The extension operates without user accounts and without analytics or telemetry scripts.
2. Local Browser Storage (chrome.storage.local)
The extension uses chrome.storage.local exclusively on your own device to remember:
- Your selected primary and secondary subtitle languages
- Subtitle display preferences (font size, color, stroke, shadow, background, and hover-blur state)
- Your word list: the words highlighted while you watch, with their meaning, level and the subtitle lines they appeared in
- Your personal OpenRouter API key (if you choose to provide one for Live AI Translation)
This local extension storage never leaves your browser and is never transmitted to our servers.
3. Third-Party Services (Optional OpenRouter AI Translation)
If you choose to enable the optional Live AI Translate (OpenRouter) mode or AI word highlighting:
- Subtitle dialogue lines and your user-provided OpenRouter API key are sent directly from your browser to OpenRouter (
https://openrouter.ai) to generate translations and word-pair alignments. - This direct browser-to-API request is governed by OpenRouter's Privacy Policy. We do not proxy, intermediate, log, or store these requests.
